The Pilgrimage originated in a brochure put out by the Benefice in the 1980s aimed at tourists who might like to drive round the Benefice churches. The idea that a pilgrimage route for walkers linking the Ironstone churches might be developed began to be discussed in the Benefice in the Benefice in 2013. Possible routes were prospected and in Holy Week 2015 the route described on this site was formally inaugurated with walks on Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday into which various services and ceremonies and for the season were incorporated (click on INAUGURAL PILGRIMAGE to see the photos).
The route in whole or in part has been walked since then by people from within the Benefice and beyond. In September 2015 a pilgrimage from Balscote to Wroxton and back was led by Jonas Hammarström, an experienced pilgrimage leader from Växjö, Oxford's link diocese in Sweden.
